The Front’s leadership council is the highest decision-making authority that chooses the leader of the organization. The council consists mainly of former Afghan army and intelligence general officers, young politicians and human rights activists. The council members have diverse backgrounds and come from diverse ethnicities. The council is a “Little Afghanistan”, composed of Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks.

The Front is currently led by General Sami Sadat the former commander of Afghan special operations corps, who was voted as leader in May 2023.

General Sami Sadat Biography

Lt. Gen. Sami Sadat, Leader of the Afghanistan United Front is the former Commanding General of the Afghan National Special Operations Corps. In 2020 commanded the Afghan National Army’s 215 Maiwand Corps in southwestern Afghanistan and was commander of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in 2019, and before that, he was a senior director in the Afghan intelligence services. He Served as Director of covert action program from 2014 to 2016 and was then leading the Afghan and US intelligence joint clandestine counter-terrorism activities until to 2018. He is a graduate of the Joint Services Command and Staff College at the Defence Academy of the U.K. Class of 2011 (ACSC 14). LTG Sadat went to the Polish Defence Academy where he completed the Battalion Command Course and the NATO Military Academy in Munich, Germany. In addition, he holds an MA in Strategic Management and Leadership from the U.K. Charter Management Institute.
