Afghanistan United Front welcomes and appreciates the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s comprehensive assessment and investigation into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. This critical effort is vital for ensuring transparency, exposing the truth, dismantling false narratives propagated by certain individuals and Taliban-sympathizing groups, and holding those accountable for the disastrous situation in Afghanistan, which has significantly heightened global security risks due to the resurgence of Taliban-driven terrorism,
Over the past three years, under the leadership of Chairman Michael McCaul, the House Foreign Affairs Committee has conducted a complex and thorough investigation into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the collapse of the Republic. AUF is proud to have contributed to these findings, as our Chairman, LTG Sami Sadat engaged with the Committee and testified on November 14, 2023, during the hearing titled “Go-to-Zero: Joe Biden’s Withdrawal Order and the Taliban Takeover of Afghanistan.”
The assessment underscores the critical lesson that negotiating with terrorists or expecting the Taliban to counter terrorism and extremism is fundamentally flawed. The Taliban have become the largest and most significant umbrella for terrorist groups in our era, encompassing Al-Qaeda and other extremist entities, providing them with resources and safe havens for their overseas operations. The threat to global security posed by these groups is not a matter of “if” but “when.” This investigation has revealed that the Taliban’s resurgence and the revival of Al-Qaeda are man-made disasters that were entirely preventable.
AUF emphasizes the importance of this comprehensive assessment in honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who bear the wounds and traumas of the conflict, and those who continue to defend freedom, human values, and the fight against global threats.
Afghanistan United Front respectfully urges the United States Congress and government to engage with their long-term allies in charting a renewed partnership to address the root causes of terrorism and restore stability to the region and the broader world. Afghans are committed to fighting for their freedom and, on behalf of the world, combating extremism. We do not ask for boots on the ground but for political and technical support. Together, we can eliminate this growing threat once and for all.
