Lorton, VA – Afghanistan United Front (AUF) welcomes President Donald Trump’s recent statement on the necessity of disarming the Taliban. This is a critical step toward ensuring Afghanistan’s security, restoring regional stability, and dismantling the expanding global terrorist networks that thrive on Taliban-controlled arms and resources.
Since their takeover in 2021, the Taliban has seized a vast arsenal of advanced weaponry and military equipment. These arms have been used to hunt down former Afghan security personnel and anti-regime forces, often under the false pretext of targeting ISKP cells. As the President of the United States has acknowledged, Taliban-controlled weapons have been trafficked across the region, fueling terrorist groups, including Al-Qaeda, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and other terrorist organizations operating in Central and South Asia and beyond.
For more than three decades, Afghans, regional stakeholders, and the international community have attempted to negotiate with the Taliban in pursuit of lasting peace. Every attempt has failed. The Taliban has no logic of negotiation, no will for peace, and no honor in upholding agreements. From their inception in the 1990s to the Doha Deal, which was altered from a conditional deal to an ill-fated time-based withdrawal, the Taliban has repeatedly proven to be a deal-breaking entity that exploits diplomacy & negotiations as a means to consolidate power.
As Afghan partner forces who have fought and sacrificed in the battle against terrorism, we reaffirm our stance: the only way to disarm the Taliban is through force. They must be confronted with a decisive strategy that eliminates their ability to function as an armed extremist force, through sheer force, and establishes a responsible, allied government. We believe this must be the course of action — not further negotiations with the Taliban.
Afghans are fully committed to liberating Afghanistan, defeating the Taliban, and combating terrorism in the region on behalf of the world. We do not seek American boots on the ground in Afghanistan. Instead, we call for political and technical support, including access to Afghan equipment and assets controlled by the U.S. government, to confront this escalating threat once and for all.
