Statement

September 13, 2024

Afghanistan United Front expresses its deepest condemnation of the brutal attack by the terrorist group ISIS on our innocent people in Daykundi province. This heinous act resulted in the martyrdom of 14 members of our Hazara community, with four others injured. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for patience and strength during this difficult time, while wishing a swift and full recovery to the injured.

In its June report, AUF’s Intelligence Commission had already highlighted the growing operational capacity and movements of the ISIS-Khurasan in Afghanistan. Today’s cowardly attack in Daykundi and the dissemination of images from this attack are a stark reminder of the reach of terror and brutality into central Afghanistan. These attacks are systematically targeting the lives of the Afghan people, particularly the Hazara community and the Shia population.

This attack, along with the recent escalation of similar incidents, including the terrorist attacks in western Kabul, once again proves the futility of expecting the Taliban to combat terrorism and extremism. On the contrary, under the Taliban’s protection, these terrorist and extremist groups have gained access to resources, safe havens, and a growing force of religious extremists. Their attacks are not only intensifying within Afghanistan but also threatening other parts of the world.

Afghans are committed to fighting for their freedom and, on behalf of the world, combating extremism.

“Together, we can eliminate religious extremism once and for all.”
